Stay and Play

Each Summer we have extended hours at select recreation centers around the City of Tampa to provide teens ages 13-19 with safe, supervised, fun spaces to engage in positive activities. Since the inception of our Stay and Play Program, over 200,000 teens have visited select centers and pools throughout the city. Food may be provided for free as well as transportation home when available.

Activities provided range from music/instrument lessons, pool parties, sports leagues, multi-media production classes, “Cops & Canvas” with TPD, an end-of-summer bash, and much more. Our valued community partners, Friends of Tampa Recreation, Safe and Sound of Hillsborough County, Derrick Brooks Charities, East Tampa Business and Civic Association, Tampa Police Department, and Lykes Foundation assist with providing programming each year.

Other events during Stay and Play include:

  • Field Trips
  • Culinary Classes
  • Speakers, including former and current athletes
  • Future Leaders Training which includes job preparation, financial literacy workshops, and educational opportunities
  • Community Service Projects

Stay and Play aims to provide teens with a place to be active, safe, and healthy.
